Sandy Dooley
Sandy Dooley's paintings are inspired by the beautiful Weald of Kent where she lives and works in her studio in the garden. She responds to the landscape around her, following the seasons in her paintings, allowing the colours and mood to seep into her paintings.
She often uses a low viewpoint as if laying in grasses and flowers and looking through them, to depict a feeling of being surrounded and immersed in a magical place. The visual impact and pleasure of her memories of a childhood spent outside still resonate and come into her work. Her paintings radiate light and glow from within, absorbing the in-the-moment experience.
She often throws paint at the canvas and works with the canvas on the floor, dripping onto it, valuing the spontaneity this gives. She loves colour and texture and aims for a harmonious balance of these elements.
She studied at St Martin's School of Art in London, completing her BA in 1987. She exhibits at Saatchi Art Gallery in USA and UK, and in London, Brighton and Southwold.
