Serena Hall completed a degree in Design at the Edinburgh School of Art in 1995 and has since worked full time as a professional artist.
After establishing her first gallery under John's Fish Shop in East Street in 1998, Serena opened the Serena Hall Gallery in its current position in Queen Street, Southwold in April 2000 where she now displays a mixture of her paintings and ceramics alongside work by other new designers and artists.
Bold brushstrokes and generous use of colour is characteristic of her work, which focuses on subjects and views connected with her native Southwold. Often walking with her sketchbook, Serena gathers ideas, objects, thoughts and childhood memories to take back to her studio in town where she works. Serena has been commissioned by several companies in London, as well as numerous private clients, and has appeared in numerous press articles and has also featured on several television programmes.
Serena was the overall and creative winner of The Prince’s Trust/Oil of Olay Awards for Visionary Woman 2001. In 2008, TRH The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall visited the gallery, and were presented with a painting of Southwold by Serena.
