Southwold born artist Marc Brown graduated in 1995, and has since exhibited in London and East Anglia. His work is collected extensively in the United Kingdom and in Europe.
Marc was a foreman brick-maker at a traditional hand-made brickworks at South Cove for 3 years before attending Lowestoft Art School (1990-92) and Manchester Metropolitan University (1992-95). After graduating in 1995 he began to produce primarily drawings, and ultimately paintings for exhibiting. He continued the theme of his degree show which was heavily influenced by the Suffolk Coast, his family history and the various connections with the sea it has had through the generations. In 2003 he gave up his part-time position at Lowestoft College to further his painting career.
Working in mixed media Marc's work attempts to capture the elements of sea and coastline found along his native North Sea coast. He often explores the juxtaposition of large open skies with strands of finely detailed horizons which often focuses on isolated buildings or objects, and is particularly drawn to the vast open stretches of our coastline that feature remote or derelict buildings or structures. Orford Ness, and its strange enigmatic landscape is a favourite haunt. Marc currently lives in Southwold, and is the founder member of the Sole Bay Motorcycle Club.
