Coming from a family of sculptors, it's perhaps not surprising that Joanne Cooke has a remarkable talent for capturing the personality of man's best friend. Her sculptures seem to capture the very essence and character of a given breed of dog.
‘When producing a piece, my aim is not to replicate a dog in clay but to create my own impression of it. I like to exaggerate certain characteristics that stand out, particularly facial expressions. Working from life and photographs, I try to capture the essence of many different breeds from Chihuahuas to Deerhounds’
We love having Joanne’s ceramic dogs in the gallery and, as dog owners ourselves, it's always good company! We try and keep a good selection of Joanne's work on display, which range from Pugs to English Bull Terriers.
Joanne also welcomes commissions through the gallery for specific breeds or your own dog. Please contact the gallery for further information.
