Anna Tilson produces beautifully made mosaic objects from pieces of antique crockery that have been carefully selected from her vast collection in her studio in Brighton.
Anna trained at St. Martins School of Art in London as a fashion and textile designer, and set up a very successful business making hand-printed items of clothing. Outlets for her textiles included Neiman Marcus - New York, Liberties of London, the Crafts Council at the V&A and the annual Chelsea Crafts Fair.
In 1999, she took a different direction and began making her rather exquisite mosaic pieces, which are often made using fine antique crockery and beveled-edged mirrors. Her work has a wonderful, playful quality with a very keen attention to detail – even the backs of her mirrors are often decorated with unusual coverings using antique printed material such as sheet music.
